Abstract
The “Arab Uprising” or “Arab Spring” as it has been called is transforming the whole area of Middle East in a way that no one could predict a few months ago. Rulers who have stayed in power for decades, as is the case in Egypt and Tunisia, are forced to resign. Furthermore, important states in the region, such as Syria, are trembling from the revolution and nobody can be certain where this will lead. The aim of this paper is to analyze the changes that are brought about in the regional balance of power due to the “Arab Spring” and how these changes may affect Israel’s security. As regards Israel, the most powerful state in the region’s “Arab Spring” does not appear to send optimistic messages regarding its relations with its neighbors and poses security challenges to the Jewish state. The main argument in this paper is that the Middle East enters a new phase of strategic instability and volatility that affects all the states in the region, and especially Israel.
